About Tones TCG

Tones TCG is an Online Trading Card Game focusing mainly on music from anime, Japanese video games and the Vocaloid franchise. The game is free to play, and all you need is time and a place, such as a website or a Dreamwidth journal page, to keep your cards. Members gain cards by playing games on Tones' Dreamwidth community, and by accomplishing tasks in the game.

How to Play

Before joining Tones TCG, have a webpage or a journal page ready to store your cards. A good card post has a link back to Tones TCG, different sections for your member information (such as your name and the number of cards you have), cards you want to collect, cards which you wish to trade away, your currency, and a card log. Take a look at this sample card post for a starting idea of how you want your own card page to look.

A card log is a record of cards you have received from games and activities, and from trades with other players. Players may decide to have trades recorded separately from cards obtained from games and services.

Each entry in the card log must contain the following:
-Date of trade/Date of prize receipt
-Name of player whom you traded with/Name of game or activity you participated in
-Name of card(s) obtained and traded away/received

This is how a good card log entry would look like:
08 Jun 15
Scratch Round 05: Received closetoyou05, mezase10
Trade: Traded magia09 for secretbase14 with Aletha
Gift: Gave song4u12 to Noxie

About the Cards

At Tones, there are 4 types of decks for players to collect and master - regular, special, puzzle, and event decks. Each deck consists of 16 cards which come in cool, warm or neutral colors.

Regular decks feature opening and ending sequences, and music videos. These cards have a card worth of 1. Regular cards are the most common in the game.

Special decks focus on themes and seiyuu. The cards in these decks have a card worth of 2.

Puzzle decks mainly feature album and single covers. When all the cards are collected, they form a whole image. Similar to special decks, these cards have a card worth of 2.

Event decks are created for special occassions. These rare cards do not have card worth and are available only as special prizes. They cannot be obtained through regular game and service rewards, music notes or choice cards.

Member cards are given to players when they join Tones. Players receive an unlimited number of these cards to trade with other players. These cards do not have card worth and cannot be mastered.

About Currency

There are 4 types of currency, which come in the form of music notes. Players can earn them by submitting accomplishments at services or by playing games. These can then be exchanged for choice cards at the Record Store.

Cool music notes can be exchanged for regular cards that come in blue, green and purple hues, while warm music notes may be exchanged for regular ones that come in red, orange and yellow hues. Players can also exchange neutral music notes for black and gray regular cards.

Rainbow notes are a little special in that they can be exchanged for all special and puzzle cards, regardless of their hue.

About Music Sheets

Music sheets are trade sheets which Tones players can use to keep track of their trades. They're a little like loyalty cards, only the "points" or notes are earned by trading cards with other players. Make 20 trades to complete a music sheet, and then redeem the music sheet at the Record Store for 2 random cards and 1 random music note.

Feel free to customise your own music sheets with this handy PSD file, or grab some ready-made sheets submitted by other players on the Music Sheet page.

About Masteries

When you have collected all 16 cards in a deck, head on down to Greatest Hits to master the deck. Congratulations!

Cards in a mastered deck still count towards your card count, however they cannot be traded to other players.

The rewards for mastering decks are as follows:
Mastering a Regular Deck3 random cards, 1 regular choice card and 1 random music note
Mastering a Special/Puzzle Deck4 random cards, 1 special/puzzle choice card and 1 random music note
Mastering an Event Deck (During the Event)4 random cards, 1 choice card of any type, 1 random music note and a customised mastery banner
